Adult Performers Are Being Debanked

Adult performers and sex workers are increasingly reporting that banks are closing their accounts, freezing funds, or refusing to provide financial services because of their profession. The issue, commonly referred to as “debanking,” has left many creators temporarily unable to access their own money despite not being accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

According to a recent report by Metro, several UK-based adult creators say the problem has become more common in recent months. Some have had accounts shut down without warning, while others claim their balances remained inaccessible during lengthy reviews. The report highlights concerns that adult industry workers are being treated as “high-risk” customers by financial institutions, regardless of whether their income is legal.

The issue extends beyond individual creators. Sex worker advocates have long argued that financial discrimination makes it harder for performers to pay bills, receive earnings, or operate legitimate businesses. Critics say the practice pushes workers toward less secure financial alternatives while increasing instability across the adult industry.
